As an active participant of the global Internet community my main interests are in internet governance issues, and emerging issues such as the need to continuously improve the working and thus justified trust in the Internet, including Internet of Things, big data, privacy & data protection, etc (both benefits/necessity and threats). Currently, next to my day job as strategic advisor on Information Society Policy matters, I am ICANN Board Director and NLnet Foundation Supervisory Board Chairman. For more than 25 years I have been working as a bridge builder between what is needed from a societal perspective, and what is possible from a technological and business perspective. Previous positions included Senior Advisor at the Dutch government, Scientific Officer at European Commission DG CONNECT, and Director at RAND Corp. (European office),
